In Honor of Doctor Martin Luther King

January 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In a tumultous world. One with such a crisis in leadership, I feel it is appropriate to pause and honor the life, and accomplishments of the Great Doctor Martin Luther King. He embodies the ideals of commitment, passion, dedication, and determination.  As  individuals and collectively in small groups, we can create great change.  We must focus our attention, our actions must reflect our goals, and we must never, never give up.   I have listened to a collection of his great speeches,  and re-read the timeline of the events in his life.  In a short time, with great effort and determination. He changed our world.  He set aside life as a normal person, and transformed the future of our country.  Today in the news we listen as a Woman and an African-American are competing to be the President of these United States.  Its a phenomenal thing.  40 years after his passing, our world is fantastically different.   And yet our country cries out for a leader with the vision and focus of Doctor King.  To right us and give us direction.   We are a nation of great diversity, but also of great commonality. Freedom! Freedom is what our ancestors, and everyone comes to this great land. Freedom to live without oppression. Freedom to raise our families without fear of government.   For that is the thing that we are missing.  We should not, nor ever, fear our government. And our government should not incite fear in us.  We should gain confidence and be uplifted by our government.  For fear of government is what brings new people to our country everyday. On this great day,  I wish to offer my gratitude to Doctor Martin Luther King Jr., and all those who stood with him.  We are forever thankful for your sense of purpose  and sacrifice. God bless you all!         Mark Smith
